March 2023 - Launch of the Cross on Memory Mountain

The local Indigenous people of the western desert region of NT are proud to be officially launching the Cross on Memory Mountain during their 2023 Easter celebrations. They are excited that their long-held vision has finally come to fruition and looking forward to seeing the lights on the Cross turned on for the first time.

Families will come from communities near and far to join the celebrations, with a weekend of Sing Along, cultural activities and sports competitions.

Visitors are welcome to join the Indigenous Easter celebrations. However, tourist facilities are still virtually non-existent, as the Memory Mountain site is still very much a work in progress. There will be a few toilets, and space to camp, but people wishing to come must be completely self sufficient, bringing their own food, water and all camping gear.

Currently the only way visitors can climb to the summit of Memory Mountain is with an approved local Indigenous guide. A guided climb is being organised for Easter Sunday morning, to watch the sun rise over the beautiful surrounding countryside. If you would like to book a Memory Mountain sunrise climb on Easter Sunday, you can go here.

For more information about tours and other events that will be offered once the Memory Mountain site is ready for visitors, you can go here.
